Saudi obstruction of the principles agreement with Sana’a

Saudi Arabia hinted on Sunday at obstructing the agreement with Sana’a, coinciding with US pressure to join the Israel Protection Alliance in the Red Sea.

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

According to the Middle East newspaper, Saudi Arabia stated its refusal to discuss the withdrawal of foreign forces from Yemen before implementing the first phase of the Principles Agreement, which extends for six months. It also conditioned the withdrawal of what it described as the “Revolutionary Guard” and Hezbollah.

The newspaper quoted informed sources commenting on the announcement of the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, that he had reached the contours of a roadmap that includes commitments from the government of Ma’een and what it described as the “Houthis.”

According to the newspaper, the most prominent items of the UN roadmap are the ceasefire and the withdrawal of foreign forces.

The newspaper indicated that the UN envoy needs to rearrange his priorities to align with the needs of Yemenis in strengthening what it described as “state authorities” and rebuilding institutions that collapsed during the war.

Saudi Arabia’s export of the file of foreign forces in Yemen comes at a time when attention was focused on its signing of a Principles Agreement with Sana’a, which includes the payment of salaries, ending the naval and aerial blockade, and stopping the war.

The timing of this move indicates Riyadh’s attempt to maneuver again to achieve further gains if it has not succumbed to US pressure, especially since the new maneuver comes before an expected round for the US envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, who stated that it will include discussions on calming down in the Red Sea in exchange for peace in Yemen.
